MALAYSIA TRADITIONAL DANCE

    Traditional dance is a popular cultural from in Malaysia too. Traditional dance form based on ethnic or their respective state which have their own distinctive dance that is still in practice until now. At the same times, you can find a particular dance known after some particular region. In fact, dance act as an added attraction in elebration be it wedding, parties, reception, religious ceremonies or any other event. At Malaysia the famous traditional dance is Makyong, Joget Zapin, Tarian Sumazau, Tarian Ngapal and others. The dance movement have their own distintive and different ways of presentation.

       Makyong derived from Pattani Kingdom. There are 5 types at dance Makyong. First, is Makyong Pattani, second Makyong Kelantan, third is Makyng Kedah, fourt is Makyong Laut, ang the last one is Makyong Riau. Three at which are in Malaysia. Each types has a different presentation Makyong distinguishone from the other. Makyong performance usually opens with the song "Mengadap Rebab", then followed by dancing, ethnic and music. Rebab is the most important tool in music Makyong.Trigon has a 3 parts, bamboo shoots, trunk and face.

 

     Next is Joget. Joget believed to have originated from Portuguese folk dance of Branyo. Joget accompanied by songs like Jingkling Nona but now many songs produced as serampang Laut, Joget Rentak106, Joget Pucuk Pisang and many others joget also known as ronggeng which takes its name from word "warung geng" is danced in pairs of men and women. Joget usually danced in socral group like patient, youth, men and women in pairs. In the party, male dancers dancing will invite female dancer in order to dance with him.


 

       Then is Sumazau. Sumazau is a traditional dance of Sabah's Kadazan people. Usually performed at religious ceremonies and social events, it is traditionally used to honour spirits for bountiful paddy harvest, ward off evil spirits and cure illnesses. Male and female dancers perform this steady hypnotic dance with soft and slow movements imitating birds in flight. The costumes are authentically Kadazan  and are usually black in colour and made of a velvet type material adorned with the appropriate accessories. The music is provided by gongs of different size.

 

        Lastly is Zapin is a malay dance from that is pupolar in Malaysia especially in the state of Johor. One of the most popular forms and certainly more evolved and intricate is the Zapin Tenglu from the town of Mersing. The dancer can then play with each other, teasing, challenging and enjoying each other company. The music for Zapin comes from an ensemble of traditional instrument which include gambus, marwas and the violin. There are no hard anf fast rules as to the number of dances that perform. However because of the very interactive nature of this dance, it is usually performed in pairs. Morever, Zapin dance will not be beutiful is it not followed by the sound of traditional music plays behind. Music equipment is closely related with Zapin dance, and of course it will be more perfect.
       
        The conclusion is Malaysia traditional dance can helps strengthen friendship among local communities. In this presentation, we can see how our people are united no matter old or young, race and religion together in the success of the performance. These include how to educate young people to respect older people. In addition, this program as a platform showcasing traditional dances that were not known for sure not extinct. Important for us to know our own country's traditional dance.
