SCHOOL BASED ASSESSMENT

Assessment is a process to get details and proceed with judgment and consideration of the product of the learning process. Assessment of the educational context is one episode in the learning process that includes activities elaborates, collecting, recording, scoring and interpreting information about student learning for a particular purpose. Assessment is a process to get an overview of the performance of a study in a subject or learning activities. To achieve this assessment in schools should emphasize the concept of continuous assessment of the development of all aspects. PBS is more formative of prioritizing the progress of each student from one stage to stage. This provides an opportunity for teachers to correct students' mistakes and correct weaknesses immediately so that these weaknesses are not collected. In addition, teachers can identify weaknesses and develop the strengths and potential students. There are two types of evaluation in the school of formative assessment and summative assessment. Assessment can be seen via the diagnosis, performance, selection and placement counseling.

First assessment via diagnosis, diagnosis carried out by the teacher in the classroom will be able to provide feedback to teachers about students' knowledge and skills that have been taught. In addition, this assessment may also provide feedback on issues facing students in learning. With it, teachers can identify the progress of a student, whether at a very satisfactory, satisfactory, moderate, weak or no any progress at all. Teachers also have to decide whether to change teaching strategies, so it is more appropriate to the needs of students or revision using the same strategy and so on. Evaluations carried out over a period of teaching and learning will show the progress of students in a certain time. Tracking student progress on an ongoing basis will provide feedback to teachers about the problems facing students. If students have a problem, the teacher will investigate the cause of the problem. The information will be used by teachers to change their teaching approach or provide special training so that problems faced by students can be overcome. Without special assistance, the students will continue to have a problem and that they will continue to fall behind in learning.

A further assessment of the achievements, accomplishments conducted at the end of instruction and learning can provide information about the level of student mastery of knowledge, skills and attitudes to be conveyed teachers. In addition, the evaluation conducted at the end of the period of study; for example at the end of Year 6 (UPSR), Form 3 (PMR) and Form 5 (SPM); is intended to determine the grade of the student's overall achievement. Evaluation at this stage more formal patterned with the eventual goal to give certificates to students. The results of this assessment will indicate the academic achievement of students in a given grade, such as the excellent, mediocre or failed. The school will be able to determine the overall ability of a student based on achievement shown in the examination taken for further action, such as the selection and placement.

Lastly is based on selection and placement, valuation is important before starting teaching and learning because teachers need to review the extent of his students master basic knowledge and skills to the title you want to learn. For example, an English teacher who will teach students not native speakers of English, need to know what knowledge and skills they have mastered, such as grammar, vocabulary and so on. This information is important for teachers to make decisions in determining the appropriate level to start teaching. In addition, teachers can choose the student to be classified in a group based on their level of proficiency. If they differ mastery, teachers need to put them under control of each stage and the next plan and carry out teaching in accordance with their needs, which vary it. In this situation, the purpose of the evaluation is to select and place students according to their knowledge and skills mastery. In addition to teaching session began, the purpose of the assessment is also to select and place students according to a particular genre. For example, the results of students who excel in science enables placed in science or in respect of the likelihood of a student.

In conclusion, among its advantages, assessment through to diagnosis, performance, selection and placement this does not compare the performance of a student by another student but reports student performance in learning and to highlight the progress and growth of the students in learning based on the standard statement. Thus, students will be assessed in a fair and equitable as individuals in society based on ability, ability, talent, skills and potential without comparison to others. In fact, the school is also able to obtain a complete response in the form of qualitative and quantitative data that covers all aspects of a pupil's self to enable those responsible to identify, understand, appreciate, recognize and honor the students as valuable human, material and has the potential to contribute to national development and nation by the capacity and capability of each. In addition, the Standard Performance can also be used as a yardstick of the state educational standards and as a tool for comparing with other national education standard.
